Habakkuk 1 - Help!
2. God, how long do I have to cry out.
How many times do I have to yell,
“Help!"
3. Why do you force me to look at evil,
stare trouble in the face day after day?
4. Law and order fall to pieces.
Justice is a joke.
13. Why are you silent now?
Why don’t you do something?
14. You’re treating men and women
as so many fish in the ocean,
Swimming without direction,
swimming but not getting anywhere.
13. You can’t be serious!
You can’t condone evil!
So why don’t you do something about it?
Why are you silent now?
17. Are you going to let this go on and on?
The Message (MSG)
Italics verse 13: 'it' orig. 'this'
Do you feel overwhelmed, discouraged, anxious, depressed? Then this is especially for you..
This song is part one of the three piece series I've made of the book of Habakkuk.
This book has 3 chapters, and I've named them: Help!, Listen and Expect.
Habakkuk is part of the so called 'minor prophets'. But there's nothing 'minor' about this man.
To me, Habakkuk is right up there with Isaiah and Jeremiah.
This man knows his God, intimately. And in chapter 1 he is not shy about voicing his (and our) disappointment and bewilderment.
'Cause things don't make sense to him and he's calling God out on it. He wants God to pay attention to their plight and to explain why He's just standing by while evil runs rampant. Much like today ..
But this is not your ordinary letting off steam moments. This man knows he has a God who listens, who sees, who cares.
So, after letting God know how he feels, he does an amazing thing. In the middle of this chaos, of this madhouse, he climbs his lookout tower, becomes still and waits.
He waits and is eagerly looking forward to what God has to say.
