Deuteronomy 8 - Don't Forget God

6. Walk down the roads He shows you and reverently respect Him.

7. God is about to bring you into a good land
a land with brooks and rivers, springs and lakes,
streams out of the hills and through the valleys.

11. Make sure you don’t forget God, your God.

3. Men and women don’t live by bread only;
we live by every word that comes from God’s mouth.

14. Don’t become so full of yourself and your things
that you forget God, your God.

The Message (MSG)

I just love the word of God. In fact, I'm crazy about it. I wasn't always, though.

Almost 5 years ago, when Daddy freed me from 20+ years of depression and the many addictions that came with it, I knew I wanted to know all there was to know about Him.

Problem was, I didn't like to read the Bible. It just didn't speak to me. I didn't get it. But I knew I'd better read the manual if I wanted to know God better.

So I prayed a simple prayer: Papa, please help me read the Bible as a boy's book. Make it come alive to me. Give me a hunger for Your Word that can not be satisfied.

And boy, did that happen!

I started to read the Bible with a craving, a raw hunger. At times even wanting to literally eat the pages.

And I found the Word gives life. I mean literally. I still sometimes wake up feeling heavy, but after reading my daily portion, I almost always feel lighter and invigorated.

That's why Jesus said in John 15:7 "Let my words abide in you".

That's why it says in Proverbs 4: 20-23

My son, pay attention to what I say; turn your ear to my words. Don't let them out of your sight, keep them within your heart; (NIV)

You see, reading the Bible is not a chore you do for God. It's words of life, meant for you, to bless you, your day and the people around you.

This song, Deuteronomy 8, is a powerful reminder of that. It says, men and women don't live by bread only. They live by every word that comes from God's mouth.

So, if you find the Bible hard to read or understand, here's a few tips for you:

Pray the prayer I mentioned earlier, doesn't have to be a boy's book tho ;)

Ask the Holy Spirit which book He'd like you to read. He knows what you need.

Ask the Spirit which translation. Don't be held hostage by the religion police. Read a translation that speaks to you (if you worry about accuracy, check interlinear (Hebrew/Greek) in the Bible Hub legacy app).

Ask the Spirit to breathe on the Word, so it comes alive and ministers to you.

And if you need help memorizing or really want to meditate on what you've read, turn on Project of Love 😉❤️

PS we're taking a two week break. We're back in two weeks with new scripture songs!
