Job 28 - Fear of the Lord
1. “People know where to mine silver
and how to refine gold.
3. They know how to shine light in the darkness
and explore the farthest regions of the earth
12. “But do they know where to find wisdom?
Where can they find understanding?
14. ‘It is not here,’ says the ocean.
‘Nor is it here,’ says the sea.
15. It cannot be bought with gold.
23. God alone understands the way to wisdom;
He knows where it can be found.
28. The fear of the Lord is true wisdom
to forsake evil is real understanding.
Isaiah 33:6
The fear of the Lord will be your treasure.
Psalm 111:10
Praise him forever!
New Living Translation (NLT)
Verse 12 [they], orig. [people]
Oh man, I've been pondering this topic, 'Fear of the Lord,' for weeks now, even dreading it. Not because I don't like to talk about it—I do—but I only have a few characters to explain it, and there's so much to say about it.
Let me start by saying what it's not. It's not a spirit of fear; it's not being afraid of God. How do I know that?
Well, Isaiah 11 announces the coming of the Messiah and verse 3 says, "His (Jesus') delight is in the fear of the Lord."
His delight. Jesus loved His Father but also had a deep reverence for Him.
So what is the Fear of the Lord according to the Bible?
The beginning of wisdom (Prov 9:10), true wisdom (Job 28), a treasure (Isa 33), a fountain of life (Prov 14:27), to hate evil (Prov 8:13), the LORD is a friend to those who fear Him (Ps 25:14), stand in awe of Him (Ps 33:8).
The list goes on and on, but we're starting to see a pattern here, right? It leads to life, wisdom, protection from evil, and intimate friendship with God. So, not at all scary stuff, now is it? :)
It's so much more than just deep reverence and awe, although those are vital aspects of the Fear of the Lord.
In a nutshell? It's your Daddy who created the entire universe. He wants you to know Him with a deep, intimate love, but also to know He's the creator of heaven and earth. Fear Him, love Him, above anything else.
When Jesus says to first seek the Kingdom of God, I believe the Fear of the Lord is THE stepping stone to that.
And like Deut 10:12 says, it leads to "to walk in all His ways, to love Him, to serve the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul."
I really felt that the Spirit wanted me to create this song with these specific verses. He wants you to understand this.
I believe this song can really help you get there.
I'll leave you with these beautiful quotes from people who know far more about this topic than I do. Be blessed! 🙌❤️
"We must fear God out of love, not love Him out of fear."
—Saint Francis de Sales
"The fear of God is the death of every other fear; like a mighty lion, it chases all other fears before it."
—Spurgeon
"The fear of God is the beginning of everything good."
