6. For God, who said, “Let there be light in the darkness,”
has made this light shine in our hearts
so we could know the glory of God
that is seen in the face of Jesus Christ.
7. We now have this light shining in our hearts,
but we ourselves are like fragile clay jars
containing this great treasure.
8. We are pressed on every side by troubles, but we are not crushed.
9. We are hunted down, but never abandoned by God.
We get knocked down, but we are not destroyed.

we fix our gaze on things that can't be seen.

As a singer, I've always been insecure about my voice. Years ago, I started out as a guitarist. That's my thing—no insecurity there. 😇
But I became a singer out of necessity. You see, with my former band, we went through singers by the dozen, so I stepped up, and we became successful. However, I was never really comfortable with my voice.
And God chose precisely that instrument to minister to thousands, possibly millions of people.
God's glory shines through our cracks.
If you put a lamp in an old and cracked clay jar, what happens?
The light will pierce through every crack and crevice.
And that's precisely what God is doing.
Paul says in 2 Corinthians 4:6 (NLT): "For God has made this light shine in our hearts so we could know the glory of God that is seen in the face of Jesus Christ."
This is followed by, "we are like fragile clay jars containing this great treasure."
I just HAD to sing this verse. It resonates deeply with me; there's a deep beauty and treasure hidden in this verse, quite literally.
In other words, we leak by design. 😉
This way, the blessings keep flowing. Because blessings are never just meant for you alone. That's why we're filled with rivers of living water and not a tranquil lake. The light and the waters need to burst through the seams so that others who walk in darkness and in need of a refreshing drink are naturally drawn to us!
Now, Paul goes on to say that we will experience trouble, opposition, and persecution.
That's why we need to "fix our gaze on things unseen" (vs. 18). Those things will last forever. Trouble, sorrow, anxiety, and problems tend to draw us back to the physical reality.
For that too, Paul has an answer: "we walk by faith, not by sight" (2 Cor 5:7).
That's not easy.
That's something you train for. We need to exercise our spiritual eyes and muscles. But more importantly, we need to develop a personal, honest, and intimate relationship with Jesus.
He is the treasure living in your heart. He's practically your roommate. 😊
And He has no trouble working through our brokenness. In fact, you might say He prefers it; how else are you going to experience God's glory but through the cracks of your brokenness? After all, you can't see His light in an airtight container. 😉
