2 Corinthians 10 - Take Captive Every Thought

3. For though we live in the world,
we do not wage war as the world does.

4. The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world,
but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds,

5. casting down arguments and every high thing
that exalts itself against the knowledge of God,
bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ

We destroy every proud obstacle that keeps people from knowing God.

Verse 3 & 4 - New International version (NIV)

Verse 4 & 5 - New King James Version (NKJV)

Verse 5 - New Living Translation (NLT)

NIV:

3. For though we live in the world,
we do not wage war as the world does.

4. The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world,

NKJV:

but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds,

5. casting down arguments and every high thing
that exalts itself against the knowledge of God,
bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ

NLT:

We destroy every proud obstacle that keeps people from knowing God.

Who's gonna ride your wild horses?

It's a beautiful song by U2. But what's it got to do with 2 Corinthians 10?

Bear with me; I'll explain.

II Corinthians 10:5 NKJV says:

"...bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ."

I love this verse and it's become part of my daily spiritual toolkit.

I've found you can use it to capture pretty much anything that is rebellious to the word of God. Anxious thoughts or feelings? Check! ✅️ Depression? Addiction? Feelings or thoughts of lust? Yep, that too. It works for everything that is not of God, not of Love's kind.

It's powerful stuff. But did you know you can also capture rebellious thoughts of, say, a loved one? Your son or daughter, husband?

It's not that you can control their thoughts; quite the opposite. It helps you to free their minds to the things of God.

The NLT renders it as follows: "We destroy every proud obstacle that keeps people from knowing God." Is that powerful or what?

As Project of Love, we face a lot of opposition. So, these last months, I've been using this scripture for whatever opposes us, and it works! It really does. Even proud algorithms that are designed to oppose religious content. 👌😅

Back to the wild horses. Jan, my wife, didn't really grasp these scriptures. So one morning, she asked Jesus about it, and He gave an amazing explanation.

He said, "Your thoughts are like wild horses. Unless you tame them (bring them to the obedience of Christ), they will go wherever they want. Once tamed, they will work FOR you, not against you anymore."

I've never heard it described better than this. ❤️

So, who's gonna ride your wild horses?
